Gatorade Player of The Year - Watch List

The Gatorade player of the year award is seen as the most prestigious individual award in girls basketball. This award considers not only on the court achievements but also academic and character off the court. As the basketball season is coming to a close I wanted to throw a few names out their to get the conversation started for the 2021-22 season... although I think it's a clear who the winner will be this season it's a fun conversation to get started!

Jaylee Womack - Tulane Signee from Ponchatoula High School

Jaylee Womack has scored over 2,000 points in high school at the 5A level which is a special accomplishment in itself but she's also a winner as she's only lost a handful games in the past two years.... her team will compete in the semifinals tonight for a shot at the 5A state title which in doing so could help put her name in the conversation for Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year!

Jalencia Pierre - Southeastern Signee from Amite High School

Jalencia "Jen" Pierre has to be one of my favorite players to watch as the lighting quick guard is near impossible to stay in front of night in night out! The Southeastern signee has been on a mission this year to get her Amite Lady Warriors to the state championship game and head home with a ring! While only standing 5'5 she might not win the Gatorade Player of the Year award but it'll be hard to find a pound for pound better basketball in the state male or female!!!

Myca Trail - ULM Signee - St. Louis Catholic High School

Myca Trail has been a cornerstone for putting St. Louis Catholic on the map in the girls basketball world. After winning back to back state championships despite not having a home gym its no surprise she's on this watch list given what she has gone through on and off the court during her journey! In her last game of her high school career she won a state championship, won the MVP and scored 33 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists.... what an amazing career!

Mikayla Williams - #1 Ranked 2023 Nationally ESPNW - Parkway High School

Mikayla Williams believe it or not in my opinion still does not get the respect she deserves here in Louisiana. Although I do think the coverage has been increasing and will continue to increase over the next week or two.... I've said it before and will say it again and again this young lady is the best player the state of Louisiana has seen since Seimone Augustus! She has been and will continue to be recognized for national player of the year awards. Not many players have won this award two years in a row but Mikayla Williams will join that group of select few and hopefully continue to garnish the national attention she has earned. Lets all continue to just enjoy watching this young lady compete because we will be talking about her for years and years to come!

Jada Richard - #1 Ranked 2024 State - Lafayette Christian Academy

Jada Richard's game has continued to improve year after year and she's deserving to be in the conversation for best player in the state regardless of classification. I'm expecting a big summer out of her this year on the circuit as she will again look to take her game to the next level. She's won two state championships and has two MVP trophies as well in her first two years of high school.... She's knocking on the door and ready to claim next up in the state of Louisiana!
