4A basketball in Louisiana brings a lot of talent both teams and individuals. This will be some more tough choices for the LSWA to pick only 10 players for all state but here's a look at a few young ladies to keep an eye out for this year!
1st Team (Alphabetical Order)
Taylor Bell - Senior / Huntington
Haley Franklin - Senior / Liberty
Aasia Sam - Senior / LaGrange / ULM Signee
Breanna Sutton - Senior / Easton / ULM Signee
Jeriah Warren - Senior / LaGrange / Florida Signee
Taylor Bell is one of the top unsigned seniors in the 2021 class. Her and her teammates are off to a great start this season and seem to have a chip on their shoulder and seem to be in midseason form. She seems poised to lead her team to the state championship game where they look to redeem themselves last year after falling short in the game a year ago. Her versatility makes her a great college prospect and hard to guard being that she is has the ability to play multiple positions. Taylor is a tough matchup for any team being that she can score on all levels and is a dominant offensive rebounder.
Haley Franklin looks to continue to carry the torch for Liberty. A two-time defending state champ, she will have a bigger role this year as her team looks to her to lead them back to the state championship. Haley is one of the top unsigned senior guards with next level change of pace. Liberty's style of play will allow her to do what she does best, which is playing fast, getting out in space, and finding her open teammates. She had a great summer and we're looking for her to play well in her senior season .
Aasia Sam helped Lagrange win its first state championship in school history. Despite losing a handful of seniors last year, they look to repeat as champions this year. The ULM signee is one of the best scoring guards in the state. Her size stands out and she has a frame that will translate to the next level. Her speed surprises people because she's faster than you would expect. Aasia's game will translate to the next level and she will be able to make an impact early at ULM due to her ability to put the ball in the basket.
Breanna Sutton and the Warren Easton Eagles seem to always find themselves in the hunt in late February. She won a state championship and is coming off an appearance in the state championship game a year ago. Her team will be looking to her to lead them to a state championship this season with her being the senior guard on the team. The ULM signee is always poised and under control and never seems to get sped up. She can play on and off the basketball since she can shoot the ball so well. Breanna has the ability to create one on one off the bounce combined with great vision which in turn helps her and her teammates.
Jeriah Warren is the top prospect in the 2021 class. She helped lead Lagrange to its first state championship in school in history. They look poised to repeat as champs this year. The Florida signee stands 5'11 with a smooth, long frame to go along with her cool and calm playing style at the point guard position. Jeriah has good vision, as she always makes the right play due to her elite decision making ability. She can play on and off the ball and uses her long frame to block and deter shots on the defensive end.
2nd Team (Alphabetical Order)
Jajuanna Briggs - Senior / Neville
Lynn Griffin - Senior / Carrencro
Destinee Moore - Senior / Northwood
Imani Rothschild - Junior / Easton
Jamia Singleton - Sophomore / Ellender
Jajuanna Briggs is one of several bigs on Neville's front line. Her team should be around deep into the playoffs. A big reason for that would be her versatile skill set. Jajuanna is a high motor type player that scores in a variety of different ways. The main way she does so is by outworking people. Another long forward, she is an unsigned college prospect that has the ability to play at the next level... she does a lot of things really well for her team and that translates to the next level.
Lynn Griffin is one of the top unsigned seniors, ranked number 20 in her class. She had a great summer, and we're expecting that to translate to her team this season. Carencro is a dark horse in 4A this year and if they make a deep run, it'll be because of Lynn's productivity. She, along with being on of the top unsigned seniors, she's one of the most versatile players. She can post up smaller defenders, hit the 3 ball, rebounds well for her positon, excels in transition, and is another player that does a lot for her team on both ends of the court.
Destinee Moore is one of the top unsigned senior post players. The 6'3 post brings a dominating presence on both sides of the ball. Northwood will look to run their offense through her on the low block as well as have her anchor the bank line of the defense. If you're looking for a back to the basket big in the 2021 class, make sure you head to Northwood to give her a look.
Imani Rothschild transfers from Booker T Washington to Warren Easton where she joins two other guards, and the junior looks to help them bring home a state title. Imani is the lone junior in a senior heavy 4A class in which her game will stand out. The number 8 ranked player in the class of 2022 has a long frame at the guard position with good change of pace, and it allows her to penetrate and get deep into the lane to get her teammates involved. She is a rangy defender and is not afraid to take on the challenge of guarding the other team's best player. She is developing into a great two-way player.
Jamia Singleton is looking to bring Ellender to Southeastern in Hammond to help her team go get over the hump as they made the final four last year. Jamia only stands 5'0, but makes up for that with a good skillset and a lot of toughness. She has the heart of someone twice her size, and she plays much bigger than what she is. The quick guard, although undersized, can score at a high rate deep in the paint as well as from outside. Another guard that makes the game easier for her teammates as she creates help and finds her open teammates.
